I read something like this and it's heartbreaking.

This is literally the guy in that XKCD comic that maintains a tiny piece at the bottom of a huge JavaScript stack that would fall over if he just stopped maintaining his open source library for free one day.

And because he's not a good self-promoter, whenever he tries to ask for money all he gets is hate and vitriol in response.

Open source, man. I love it, but the tech industry sucks.

#ISONewEngland is focused on carefully incrementalizing change so that it doesn’t disrupt the basic business model, when what is needed is just the opposite: the ISO business model and the very architecture of the grid need disruption. Wealth distribution needs to replace wealth concentration, and distributed
control needs to counterbalance centralized control. We have the technical tools and the people power to do it.

So, this is fun. We are their worst nightmare. Turn's out Mastodon "falls short for businesses" because it lacks "advertising support," says an ad industry publication.

CMSWire: Facebook Is Better for Business Than Mastodon. Here's Why >>> cmswire.com/digital-marketing/

"Social media has become one of the most powerful tools businesses can leverage for advertising... Mastodon, on the other hand, does not offer an advertising platform to businesses."

DeSantis could seize the newspapers and broadcast stations, send university professors and librarians to relocation camps, and restrict voting to white Christian men, and Patricia Mazzei and the New York Times would continue to laud his political smarts. nytimes.com/2023/03/05/us/ron-

Reminder: Billionaires are not “self-made.” They’re made via a combination of inherited wealth, government subsidies, tax loopholes, labor exploitation, and policy failures.

Can we stop perpetuating a myth that blames the wealth gap on the choices of everyday Americans?

“The underlying #philosophy of unrestrained #capitalism is that
whatever is best for people with the most money is good for
people with the least. This is such a perversion of common sense that it would be laughable, were it not so obscenely unjust.

Only a fool would think that
capitalistic command-and-control
organizations could ever produce
an equitable, enduring free #society. Only a greedy man would create them. Only an arrogant man would run them.” —Dee Hock

Wow, reading this: jeffgeerling.com/blog/2023/my- seems that Microsoft is even inept than I thought (and I thought they were heroically, indefatigably inept). Seems to me that they did you a favour, @geerlingguy@mastodon.socal - my life's definitely been much better (and about 1/15th the cost) without MSFT Azure in it. Seems like a good nudge to exit that (broken) monoculture.

This is the #EU map of droughts. Orange means the soil is dry, red means the soil is dying.

We in northern and eastern Europe better be ready to help out this summer #climate

Indiana currently has state representatives that own or have financial interest in home construction, that are creating bills designed to increase their personal income.

Why am I not surprised that they are all Republicans?

Walgreens will never get another dollar of my money. Its refusal to sell a vital, legal product is disgusting. If CVS goes along with this, the pharmacy cartel will be lending its considerable weight to a policy that the vast majority of Americans reject -- a policy mandated by a minority party of extremists. abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStor

2-year study yielded over 10,000 videos of birds at offshore wind farm, with no collisions or near-misses with wind turbines recorded.
Nearly all species of tracked seabirds avoided the zone of the wind turbine blades by adjusting their flight paths to fly in between turbines.

‘The most common response I get when I talk about dark matter is: “isn’t this just something physicists made up to make the math work out?”
The answer to that might surprise you: yes! In fact, everything in physics is made up to make the math work out.’
