I'm building a new thing for the Distributed 'Net, and I'd love company!
Cavern is a new journaling protocol focused on user agency, with end-to-end encryption and local-first design at its core. It has a social model intended to restore some chill to online communication, embracing non-public posting and manageably small social spaces. Check out <https://www.brainonfire.net/cavern/> for a rundown and links to code and discussion spaces!
I do not identify with (to the exclusion of others) a singular ideology, first and foremost because my identity and dreams can never be wholly captured or conceived of by thought, from which ideology stems. And second, because while folks battle it out online or through academic journals to show who is the purest (anarchist, communist, leftist) of them all, there are people out there actually taking actions to make a positive material difference in the world... 1/
A pretty stellar line up in these Conversations with Gamechangers

#Socialcoop friends: On 9/16 I'm doing a talk for Meet.coop, which we're a member of—I'll be discussing the limits and even "tyranny" of open source—and why co-ops like ours are so important.
All are welcome—join us: https://forum.meet.coop/t/signup-commons-hour-session-10/1156
Now that the beta is out, we've been trying to form up for a discussion around the idea of the Co-op Cloud Federation ™️ which can be an organisational model for hosters/hackers/user groups/etc. to make decisions together about how the project should be run.
We published a proposal some time ago on https://coopcloud.tech/blog/federation-proposal and got some feedback.

I finished a 5 part series on how to run an e-mail server in 2022 with all the DKIM/SPF/DMARC stuff working. It's not a simple HOWTO series, but it does explain all the moving parts. So if you're interested to learn a bit about modern e-mail - you're welcome! Starts here: https://jan.wildeboer.net/2022/08/Email-0-The-Journey-2022/

The struggle in which we are now engaged will end only when every day is Labor Day." ~Eugene V. Debs

The EU proposal we submitted in October last year HAS BEEN ACCEPTED!!
It is a "Coordination and Support Action" for open-source chip development.
The full text of the submitted version can be downloaded at:
https://wiki.f-si.org/index.php/Horizon_2021_Coordination_and_Support_Action_(CSA)_proposal
The project begins today.
During the "Grant Agreement" preparation some significant modifications were requested. In particular, F-Si is no longer the coordinator, but EDI in Latvia.
If my offer's rejected, I tend to lose interest in investing my energies in that collaboration. I encourage the rest of you to do that, too. If you're volunteering make sure you do it on your terms, especially in areas where you know you know better. But remember, if rejecting a tool someone else offers, make sure you provide a positive alternative. Life's too short to be forced to use tools designed to exploit you and your communities.
A reminder to people who use proprietary 'mainstream' digital tools provided (usually 'freemium') by massive US-based corporations within organisations (especially volunteer ones): when you choose to use these tools you, in effect, impose the terms-and-conditions of those tools upon all those you're asking to collaborate with you and your organisation. Some people will - for very good reasons - baulk at that. I know I do. When confronted by it, I offer an open, decentralised alternative.
I think we need a better tool set for grass roots political organisations - they tend to struggle desperately with the digital side of things. I'm convinced that a good handle on that can vastly improve coordination of every other aspect of campaigning. And the US multinational toolsets are both cumbersome, poorly integrated, barely fit-for-purpose, and freakin' expensive. A great opportunity for #FOSS to put paid to those opting for the money and data sucking proprietary stuff.
