There is no innovation without autonomy...no matter what your corporate overlords say.

The Traxide is a punk and underground venue in Montréal.. They had to cancel a couple of months of show for a second time since the beginning of the pandemic and this time it hits hard. With a couple of band of the scene they release compilation to get some money and pay the bills.

If you have some money to spend on music, it's pay what you can (minimum 1 CAD) and it could help a really nice venue survive de pandemic.

Everyone should start using, "Microsoft GitHub", instead of "GitHub" to reenforce to the open source community the cost of using that repository service.

2/ So, #Docker, a for-profit corporation, is mooching even more out of the #FreeSoftware community because I was tired of manual-built images. So I build my images on #salsa, which is run by the non-profit @debian . Alternatives to Docker Hub that are better?

"The lobstermen—a title claimed by women as well as men who catch and sell lobster for a living— partnered with the Machinists Union (IAM) to create both an affiliate union local and a marketing cooperative. Their success demonstrates how union membership coupled with worker ownership can strengthen worker power."

And I’m sorry but the solution IS boring. You want people to remain people (not properly) and you want democracy in the age of the digital network? You give individuals the means of communication.

You want autocracy on a scale hitherto unseen in human history? You give it to corporations instead.

Simple. Boring. True.

us healthcare - depressing

This is depressing to think about nonfree firmware eating the world:

Uncompressed source code of Linux 5.16.7: 1.1GB

The "source" of nonfree firmware: Over 700MB and growing so it's a good percentage of the size of the ENTIRE KERNEL ITSELF.

Free firmware with actual source code? 24.5MB and not growing

Excellent article about the ongoing tragedy of land use and the decline of agricultural land and communities, featuring long time friends of my family.

If you've felt overly worried, even despair, about the state of our world, I've found contributing to #iNaturalist to be something helpful.
I started with plants, because that's what interests me the most, but I then started to document all sorts of species from around where we live, and it made me realise how many different species I had never noticed before. Kind of reassuring to see how teeming with life the city is - and you contribute data for scientists to monitor biodiversity. ✊ 💚
