For my development work (and maybe all development work), boards and cards, timeline tasks, and 24/7 access are all things that stifle innovation and productivity by limiting autonomy. If you have a team that needs those things to get the job done, you don't have a team; you have a group of individuals working for their paycheck. You have no clue what they give a shot about, but chances are good that it's not your project.

This is great: theconversation.com/corbevax-a but it's desperately sad that this isn't the default process, for the greater good, rather than Big Pharma shareholder (i.e. the 1%) profit maximisation.

@vbd It feels counterintuitive, right? Seeds have been a common good for millennia, and should continue to be commons.

rnz.co.nz/news/national/460646 I think we need to accept that theistic religion in general has less than zero claim to moral authority, and it's had at least 2k years to prove its value, which it has not done. I think it's better if we let it lapse.

And I'm responsible for about 30 Linux instances in the cloud, and about 7 or 8 at home. And a bunch of other stuff (see tech.oeru.org/oeru-web-service and nzoss.nz/online-services plus my personal services (dev and prod))... so, keeps me busy :) - but still have time for development and lots of other fulfilling (e.g. family & friends) aspects of life.

Wow, just wrote a list of the WordPress sites I'm responsible for... and it's about 15, of which 7 or so are multisites with as many as 200 subsites. And I've just been through them all to make sure they're up-to-date. Takes an hour or so a month. I think lots of people think self-hosting is way more bother than it really is.

ICYMI: The OECD says it would cost US$50 billion to vaccinate the entire rest of the world.

G-20 countries have already spent US$10 trillion to mitigate the economic impact of #COVID19.

Roderic Crooks from UC-Irvine:

"[N]aïve or cynical deployments of computing #technology can actually harm or exploit the very same racialized and minoritized communities that access is supposed to benefit. In short, access to computing in #education —or in any other domain— can only meaningfully contribute to #equality when minoritized and racialized communities are allowed to pursue their own collective goals."

Both NZ's Labour and National Parties still espouse policies that implicitly assume that "Trickle Down Economics" is a thing. We need Governments and policy makers that realise that TDE is not valid and won't improve the equity of our society (a per-requisite to addressing the climate emergency). We need smarter *progressive* Government.
