Worth repeating: AI platforms built by greedy tech CEOs aren't "making mistakes" they are working as designed
Part of that design is undermining experts, removing human connection & trust, and hiding decision making
Those are the things that make our communities work, and the more we lose them, the worse things get
Whatever the hypesters may tell you, LLMs do NOT reason. Given two conflicting versions of a story, they’ll go for the one that is repeated more often. The sequence of tokens representing a false narrative is – if the astroturfers have done their job right – statistically more probable than the sequence representing a factual account, so it's the false narrative that will get coded into the model and trotted out on demand.

Good job everyone. We're making quick progress towards full "Idiocracy". 🤦♂️
@ireneista I have some detailed thoughts here that are long and not for sharing in public. The brief version, though, is that an examination of scamming in quantum computing is incomplete without an analysis of sexual harassment and assault in the same culture.
Tomorrow, online workshop "Not so frequently Asked Questions (On Green Big Tech as a Counterinsurgent Force)" a the Decolonial Conference
Big Tech is not only complacent with but is itself the essence of counterinsurgency: it is the most world-making, overpresent, immediate materialisation of the imperial boomerang in our times. For this workshop, we propose a collective space to continue the sharpening of questions to keep rehearsing insurgency against Big Tech, particularly in its green techno-solutionist character. In that spirit, the Infrastructural Rehearsals Collective has put together an NSFAQ (not so frequently asked questions) to start to collectively formulate a shared vocabulary that circulates these questions and their potential grapplings with in spaces of anti-colonial resistance.
@JonathanMBR Sigh. EU nations abstain. From a resolution to condemn slavery and consider reparations. How much lower are they/we even capable to go… 🤯
@rysiek I'm pretty sure they've been already doing this IIRC I read the fine print when I moved my repos and it was stated that the archives of my data would still be used for these purposes. I moved as soon as Microsoft acquired GitHub, because I've a never-Microsoft stance, since Windows 3.1.

Just got this from Microslop GitHub:
> We're updating how GitHub uses data to improve AI-powered coding tools. From April 24 onward, your interactions with GitHub Copilot—including inputs, outputs, code snippets, and associated context—may be used to train and enhance AI models unless you opt out.
I barely ever use GitHub. When I do, it's when I am forced to because some project I rely on only uses GitHub.
If you're project is only using GitHub, please consider migrating.
"Canada rejected her permanent residence application. Her job duties were made up — by Immigration’s AI reviewer"
Added wiring and assembling control to expected job duties... She's a doctoral researcher in the immunology of aging.
I'm really hoping that this sets a legal precedence for the standard of the duty of care that the government is held to when using technology that does not care for reality.

I didn't realize the facebook execs Mozilla acqui-hired last year have been promoted! I was assuming they were still just heading the ads division of Mozilla, but oh boy, I fucking wish.
Now the former Senior VP of Marketing of facebook (2008-2022, the finest years of facebook) is the CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER of the entire Mozilla.
And the former VP of Ads in Facebook (2012-2022), is now the Senior VP of Product of Mozilla.
Let me repeat this:
The guy who used to lead the facebook team that was literally "advertising to teenagers based on their emotional state" is now the guy who decides the direction of Firefox as a product. But hey, let's keep giving Mozilla the benefit of the doubt uh? I'm sure these people-who-should-be-on-trial-in-the-hague are going to do great things for the community!
still shaking my head over the mozilla leadership page. It is more, shall we say, "extensive" than I would have every imagined possible. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/leadership/ I mean, holy wow. Search the page for "VP" and you get 21 hits, there are 8 "chief" and 5 "managing" and 6 "executive."
