Part of that design is undermining experts, removing human connection & trust, and hiding decision making

Those are the things that make our communities work, and the more we lose them, the worse things get

Whatever the hypesters may tell you, LLMs do NOT reason. Given two conflicting versions of a story, they’ll go for the one that is repeated more often. The sequence of tokens representing a false narrative is – if the astroturfers have done their job right – statistically more probable than the sequence representing a factual account, so it's the false narrative that will get coded into the model and trotted out on demand.

Q: How is the data stored?
A: I don’t know.

Q: Where is this deployed, do you have a server?
A: I don’t know. I asked Claude to deploy it and it did.

Later several of us were talking about sorting some inputs to the main code and I was more dismayed when they suggested we use a chatbot to put the inputs in alphabetical order.

Tony Hoare hasn't been dead a month and already we've set him spinning in his grave.

I'm getting closer to a Why Bother attitude. I'm not there yet but it's depressing that anyone would help deskill safety analysts and tighten the job market and learning opportunities for junior staff.

I mean, the Unix command 'sort' is right there. It boggles the mind.

I didn't realize the facebook execs Mozilla acqui-hired last year have been promoted! I was assuming they were still just heading the ads division of Mozilla, but oh boy, I fucking wish.

Now the former Senior VP of Marketing of facebook (2008-2022, the finest years of facebook) is the CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER of the entire Mozilla.

And the former VP of Ads in Facebook (2012-2022), is now the Senior VP of Product of Mozilla.

Let me repeat this:

The guy who used to lead the facebook team that was literally "advertising to teenagers based on their emotional state" is now the guy who decides the direction of Firefox as a product. But hey, let's keep giving Mozilla the benefit of the doubt uh? I'm sure these people-who-should-be-on-trial-in-the-hague are going to do great things for the community!
