What I do not apologize for: thinking that a list of open-source software encumbered by AI antifeatures should exist. It's a useful resource if you're trying to avoid the proliferation of AI — my mistake and my harm as far as that's concerned was in the how and not the what.

I also do not apologize for believing that AI boosters should be held accountable for their actions. This was the wrong way to do it, but I don't believe my own personal goal was bad, and I do not apologize for holding it.

AI is improving so rapidly, soon creating technical debt will not even require developers anymore.

@ubersoft I'm really starting to consider setting up a Qubes desktop (or -like approach), to juggle differing dependencies (security and app). Kyle Rankin's book, Linux Hardening in Hostile Environments, first turned me on to this.

Rankin is currently recommending BlueFin Linux, which is a Flatpak first model, which also would solve disparate app-distro dependency conflicts, but I have an issue with Flatpak storage gobbling.

NEW: As protests against ICE continue across Minneapolis, right-wing influencers have flocked to the area to create content and agitate the crowd. Protesters have confronted far-right personalities such as Jake Lang, Jayden Scott, and Gregor Butzow on Friday and Nick Sortor and Cam Higby over the weekend. Other agitators have also appeared and are seeking clicks.

@kyle It's kind of funny how you state that apt helped solve dependency management issues, but a new hope is being presented in flat packaging, what I would call extra-distro dependency avoidance at a storage cost.

"dell is not pushing AI" story is bollocks

i went looking for anything other than that PCGamer selective quoting, and everything else Kevin Terwilliger said at CES is AI, AI, AI

even the quotes are in the context of Dell pushing local AI really hard and pushing the suitability of their PCs for AI

Meantime, I hear from friends that a number of #mutualaid hubs in the #TwinCities that are coordinating in resistance to ICE are consciously referring to themselves as “lifehouses,” and if it’s true I could not possibly be prouder.

If there’s anyone on the ground in a position to confirm or deny, do get in touch, but in the meantime please keep right on doing what you’re doing. The struggle continues – but, beloved, never forget that victory is certain. 👊

The main things that I look for when I go to a business website are:
* Their address
* Their hours
* How to contact them

Sometimes you can find this information if you really dig.

Hello all - it's that time again - tomorrow evening, Tue 13 Jan, at 20:00 NZDT, we'll be having our Jan Libre/FOSS meeting at meeting.iridescent.nz - anyone welcome to join us. It'll be held on our BigBlueButton instance (thanks to Prodigi.nz for sponsored hosting infrastructure!). We'll talk about whatever folks want to discuss. Maybe this month we can take a look at Mailcow, to show what full-service, multi-tenanted self-hosted email infrastructure looks like... There'll be many more demos!

So by comparison... ICE sounds sadly like an other "highly trained" police force.

Sexual assault at ICE detention centers under the Obama admin were so common that ICE tried to claim its not their responsibility to police their detention center staff and contractors.

Many of these cases stem from a ICE center opened in 2014 under Obama but didn't go to trial until the 1st Trump admin.

This is bipartisan and systemic abuse with police forces.
