The only reason you assassinate every Al Jazeera journalist left in Gaza is because you don’t want anyone to document the genocide you are about to accelerate.

Any politician, Democrat or MAGA or Independent, any journalist, liberal or conservative, who cannot call this genocide for what it is, is complicit, and I hope history remembers you as such.

I would get a paid subscription to the @taylorlorenz newsletter -- which correctly pilloried Substack's recent promotion of a Nazi -- if she wasn't using Substack to publish her newsletter.

Not sure where I found this link: yewtu.be/watch?v=0v0bo5u8zu8 or youtube.com/watch?v=0v0bo5u8zu8 (if you want to feed the Google machine), but it highlights how *completely* most of us are pwned by US #BigTech. Microsoft and Apple are just as bad as Google, i.e. *horrible*. The thing that rubs me the wrong way is the glib pronouncement that self-hosting email is impossible for all but the most 'technically advanced'. Similarly other self-hosting. But... if I can do it, I'd suggest it can't be that hard.

In another cafe now (work on car is taking longer than expected)... this one's relatively quiet. But the music vibe (alt country!?) is offputting. The chorus of the last song is 'Thank god' this and that - a weird Christian musical abomination. Maybe that's how the proprietors of this cafe roll. Doesn't seem to be helping their business given the lack of customers. Lots of sources of 'WTF' and general terror today.

At the table next to mine, a trio are talking about how they're going to integrate 'AI' into their organisational portal. These people do not inspire *any* confidence in their understanding or competence.

@scriptkiddie Love all the comments at the link pointing out how the shirt doesn't make any sense. Need some more of us that were playing with PCs before 1980 to die off. (and if you're thinking of replying that the IBM PC didn't come out until 1981, please don't be such a marketing tool.)

Dear distro maintainers and "i build my own stuff" people:

In case you want to check out 0.49 release upfront: we've tagged the first release candidates (0.49~rc1) of #phosh and related components 🎉 📱 .

Release is planned 2025-08-15 (https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/Phosh/phosh/-/wikis/Releases), just in time to celebrate at @FrOSCon .

Despite the date we hope it won't be 0815 but has some exciting bits for everyone.

We've also tagged the companion releases for #feedbackd 0.8.4 and feedbackd-device-themes 0.8.5.

Really, it would mostly be great to have something exactly like the internet but where you could use all the tools without a multiple nebulous third parties looking over your shoulder.

At least significant number of the members of both communities have joined me on a Matrix instance I run... which will soon be moved to its new sponsored hosting infrastructure, thanks to Prodigi.nz! Hazzah. Here's to locally-hosted, community-run, not-for-profit, decentralised, (actually) secure (compared to *all* the proprietary options, at least), libre computing/communication infrastructure!
