Many have riffed on the tradition of using playing cards to help troops recognize the enemy. While social media accounts selling “Gaza’s Most Wanted” and “Covid's Most Wanted” cards remain online, a user selling “Most Wanted CEO” cards was quickly banned. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/01/plat

“In order to create it, she says laws from 50 countries were broken, which, among other things, prohibit women from producing alcohol, working night shifts, cleaning machinery, lifting heavy barrels, or driving trucks.” 🍻

To amplify: I will periodically read a newsletter published on the odious Substack platform. But I won't subscribe to or pay for anything there.

If Jennifer Rubin and Norm Eisen had chosen any other newsletter platform, I'd already be backing them with my time and money.

Incredibly frustrating to watch a shitbird company like Substack rolling up the newsletter space, because creators choose convenience over integrity, or don't even check out alternatives.

"Drupal's upgrade cycle is impossible to manage so I'm switching to WordPress" feels pretty weak compared to "apparently the guy who's leading the WordPress charge is a fucking batshit crazy lunatic"

I don't want to migrate again, goddamn it, but seriously, fuck this guy.

We talk a lot of big game about general strikes on social media, but maybe we should get on that pretty quick. After Severance premieres, or maybe after the Super Bowl. Unless you have Valentine's plans, so March?

Help me out!

Industry using ‘tobacco playbook’ to fend off ‘forever chemicals’ regulation - theguardian.com/environment/20 "Industry-funded research and exaggerated claims litter arguments against stricter regulation" don't they all?

In many places like Britain, people must waste huge amounts of time proving the are entitled to benefits.

UBI would solve this.

Trump gets an "unconditional discharge" for shit he definitely did. Hunter Biden gets pardoned for shit he definitely did. But my man Leonard Peltier is still locked up for shit he DID NOT do. What's the lesson here? That if you have power you are unaccountable and can operate with impunity, but if you dare to challenge Power, it will destroy you. #democracy

@april For a community whose number one learning tool is "Hello world!", the bar is pretty low.

I keep reading about devs being amazed by how good AI coding is, and I don’t know if the bar is low on what people expected, if their code is hilariously simple or if I’m doing something wrong.

@lightweight @dangillmor I would totally go for Discourse to replace Facebook Groups. Another great option in my opinion is to create a community in a Lemmy server or to host a server.

Donald #Trump would have been convicted over 2020 election, says special counsel - theguardian.com/us-news/2025/j staggering; definitive proof that the US political system has failed

Such epic scumbaggery from people spreading misinformation about wildfires and the people fighting them.

I want to publicly announce a change in my thinking. For many years I have promoted non-profits, especially foundations as a good way to keep FOSS (Free and Open Source) projects protected and effective.

Not any more.

I am now leaning towards coops as the better vehicle. The cooperative approach allows for better distribution of power to those that do the work where foundations typically concentrate power on those with the money. This might become a long thread that'll take some time.

Feeling quite pleased with myself. My coffee roaster has not been working right - not reaching temperature and taking too long to roast the beans, which gives a poor result.

I researched the problem. Found some helpful tips. Diagnosed the problem, ordered the part, took the roaster apart, verified the old part was indeed broken, replaced it, put everything back together. And now it's all working! So I spent $45 and an $800 appliance probably has another decade in it now.

We should applaud manufacturers like Behmor who publish manuals, answer owner questions, design things to be repairable and provide parts.

#Ransomware threat actors are increasingly abusing AWS's Server-Side Encryption (SSE-C) to encrypt S3 buckets without needing to drop malware. Most recently a TA known as #Codefinger is using this technique.

🕵 Make sure you're monitoring S3 and encryption activity via CloudTrail & GuardDuty.

So, this has been in the works for a while, arguably most of last year. I intend to transfer my personal ownership of the Mastodon trademarks and assets, incl. copyright over my code, to the Mastodon non-profit, and transition to a different role at the organization.

Another major media commentator quits the Trump-nuzzling Washington Post to start a site on a platform whose key investors are outright Trump funders, and whose management sees no problem helping fascists monetize their vile stuff.
