One of the problems with judging people strictly on past actions is that it ignores ignorance, and people are capable of learning. This is something people should remember in the age of easily dug up former transgressions.

A lot of people treat "ignorant" as a trigger word, but I'd rather use "ignorant" than "stupid" (until proven otherwise). Ignorance is a lack of knowledge, but stupidity is an inability to learn (or an avoidance of learning). We are all ignorant about a great many things; ignorance is not a reflection on our intelligence.

@lightweight Article kind of fumbles OS/2 technical portions, but still a good read. OS/2 was almost completely rewritten after the MS and IBM joint development ended, and Windows 95 would have never happened if the IBM OS/2 hadn't been gaining market share in the mid to late 90s.

Today, I'm unexpectedly reminded of how towering and fluent (and amazingly readable) this rant (in book form) is: web.archive.org/web/2005101307 - web-based bitrot means that's it's only available via archive.org, (thank goodness for their good work!).
