"In 1980, 26.5% of German social democrat parliamentarians had held formal roles with a trade union, but by 1994 this had reduced by half... parliamentarians who held a formal role with the youth wing of the party amounted to 51% in 2017 – up from 13% in the early 1990s."

Nice essay; too bad Dvorak missteps at the end with his talk of rioting being bad for the Democrats. This take is based on old methods of information sharing (what the media presents; what the publishers allow to be printed; what local governments allow in the libraries).
The anarchists in the Haymarket riots would have much more public support in an internet age.
Of course, it's hard to blame them. The software development world continues to treat software as magic, not science, so there's no empirical evidence pointing toward the best development methods.
Software managers and their bosses never like to hear that the best answer is to start over, so they'll ignore such advice in favor of slipped schedules, undelivered promises, and unmaintainable software; then in ten years, they'll start over, often after the people wise enough to suggest it are long gone. #failureloop
I've worked for both small companies and big companies. While it's easier to be a VIP in a small company, it's much easier to develop new interests in a big company.
In both cases you have to navigate entrenched bastions of mediocrity. In a small company, you might become stuck behind one; in a big company, you have more room to manuever around one, but there's many more to discover.
@byllgrim@mastodon.xyz Does the company present their real values, or the values they advertise? Too #cynical?

While even those who benefit the most from conventional corporations are turning against them, the cooperative sector is expanding rapidly.
Will this counter-economy reach a critical mass to replace modern capitalism?
