Kash Patel wants to "come after" the press.

The Senate shouldn’t give him the keys to the FBI to do it.

#cargo question.

Use case: the application is going to distributed with a couple extra files alongside.

Their final location will be in /usr/somewhere. Thy are generated in target/debug or target/release while developing.

How do I force `cargo run` to give the application the right path to the target dir?

Americans REALLY got used to Dems holding back the damage Republicans gleefully inflict, then shitting all over them & refusing to vote them into any position to hold back the damage Republicans gleefully inflict.

They can’t fucking help us, guys. America said it didn’t want them to.

I'm not trained in #Marxist theory, but I feel like there could be some interesting Marxist analysis of the surplus value / surplus labor implications of widespread federal layoffs in the U.S.

Do any #Marxists have thoughts on how this plays out and/or can anyone point me to existing analyses?

Discussions that explicitly connect the dots between the #socialtheory and implications for community organizers be especially interesting, if such things exist.

Hey fellow Tech Writers!

The Society for Technical Communication is dissolving and filing Chapter 7. It's the only professional society I've ever willingly joined (though I almost always wound up paying late fees to renew my membership).

Sigh.

Best explanation for why Trump wants to gut the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which does absolutely essential work:

A key part of CISA's mandate is to keep elections secure and honest, and it's done this brilliantly.

No wonder MAGA wants to kill it.

Everyone involved with this should be ashamed.

"We care so much about the climate that we wrote a whole book on grassroots climate activism. However, we don't want anyone to actually read it, so we priced it appropriately."

Routledge doesn't care about climate change, and they don't care about activism. They care about getting $280 out of your pocket and into theirs.

Oh and if you're in a rush to switch earlier you're welcome :mastozany:

Okay, putting my hand up to help potential switchers. If you're thinking of switching to #XMPP this #GlobalSwitchDay, drop me a private mention and I can help you figure things out! Offer valid till stocks last :xmpp:

(I've been using XMPP-based federated messaging since forever, and know a bunch of servers including some I can invite you to, as well as a bunch of apps depending on your needs. This is just me though so I'll have to close if I get too flooded!)

Trump and his wholly owned Republican congressional majority are preparing legislation that is blatantly designed to prevent MILLIONS of Americans from registering to vote.

More from the Brennan Center for Justice, which closely tracks this stuff:

Of course, we'll be broadcasting on our self-hosted Owncast instance – which you can follow right here on the Fediverse to get notified of this and any future streams @cast

Ok, so that's annoying. For some reason, Gmail has started querying the reverse ptr for my mail server's IPv6 address, which is a /64... I've specified the ptr for the whole /64, plus the ::1, ::2, and now it's started rejecting the ::1b, because apparently that's 'not defined'... so do I have to explicitly define every possible permutation?

This weekend (Feb 1st/2nd), join Co-op Cloud online at Fluconf for "Grow Your Own International Democratic Tech Federation", our first-ever presentation about the social/democratic/human side of the project.

Scheduling still in progress, time and date to be announced as soon as we know!

So, in the process of migrating my website from Vercel to Hetzner, I was able to do a pretty good write-up of what I did. If anyone wants to follow in my footsteps (or alternatively, point out all the things I've done wrong) , I think it's a decent guide!
