So far, all the worker organizing books I've read have all concentrated on non-professional work (excluding nurses and teachers), but in the USA, professional jobs are seeing the same type of events. i.e., they mirror the decline of the good paying factory jobs. Worker organizing isn't done much in these types of jobs. The reason might be that the pay scale leads many to fell bad about complaining, but with salaries starting to dip into actual poverty levels, that should be changing.

In case you missed it, Google Play recently removed the @Tusky Mastodon app without proper explanation.
Tusky is one of the best Android Mastodon apps, with nothing controversial in it at all. It's quite disturbing that Google can and does act like this.
An alternative and much better way of getting Tusky onto your Android device is by using the independent FOSS app store @fdroidorg
You can find instructions for installing F-Droid here: https://switching.software/replace/google-play/

@mackc @lightweight Software salaries are on the decline, because we let the management class (???) drive our value down. The same thing has happened in engineering across the board. Anytime you work unpaid overtime, lose vacation days, or allow yourself to be seen as replaceable by lower cost workers, you are reducing your value. You make yourself replaceable by not trying to exceed the average parameters of "programming" (3GL, no metrics, little up front work).
@lightweight Of course you combine the start of this with the later comment of ignorance in your 20s, and you've got the frog in the cooking pot. i.e., not realizing you're going to get cooked until it's too late. "If I knew then what I know now." I know I just wanted the suburban home (nod to the Descendents). Of course I didn't recognize in the 80s the middle class was in the decline. Suspected it, but youth is optimistic.
Looks like I've been approved for the UN COVID -19 relief fund and will be able to retire early! #obviousScamEmails
