I'm getting closer to yielding to the numerous pressures to own a smart phone. I know phones in general are shit for digital sovereignty, but maybe there are some less gross ones? Does anyone have opinions about this?

@dynamic If you're comfortable with Linux, the Purism Librem 5 is a good phone. It's highly privacy and free software focused. Check out the Purism forums before buying to see all complaints.
The Pine Phone is a cheaper and less privacy and feedom focused Linux phone.
There are some Android-like alternative OSes you can load on some Android phones for as long as Google allows it. Research which phones are compatible.
