ceilings & floors
I'm less concerned with glass ceilings than I am with concrete floors. Almost none of us will come anywhere near the ceiling, and even if one of us did, it would *just be one* of us. Many - probably most - of us however, will have to deal with the floor in a very direct way, whether ourselves or people we care about. And as a white, straight, male I can tell you that having people from your demographic in charge doesn't make the floor any more comfortable of a place to sit.

So it's a little odd (although also not, because I've lived in this country for awhile now) that I hear more talk of breaking glass ceilings than I do of raising concrete floors, and also there seems to be an (mostly) unstated assumption that having a rich and powerful person from a particular demographic category will be beneficial for poor, powerless people in that demographic category. That is certainly not the case, as Clarence Thomas and Amy Coney Barrett should make clear.

@GuerillaOntologist America is the land of opportunity! Pull yourself up by your bootstraps! etc., so the ceiling is the only thing keeping you down.
