US pol: what no one wants to admit
One of the things that really kills me about US politics is how willing partisans of the legacy parties are to make excuses for their politicians. It leads people to defending things that shouldn't be defended and denying obvious facts. It also reinforces my opinion that most people's politics are mainly about supporting their team, not thinking critically about the state of the nation.

US pol: what no one wants to admit
This is largely, I think, a function of our two party system.
"My party is the good one, so anything that seems bad for my party or its politicians must be lie, or blown out of proportion, or not really that important. Because if it is a big deal and it isn't a lie, that will help the other party, and the other party is evil, so that can't possibly be the case." [proceeds to put fingers in ears]
The result is cognitive dissonance that I think is truly harmful
US pol: what no one wants to admit
@GuerillaOntologist It's not just that the other party is "so evil", it's that the other party is "so evil that they'll take away all your freedoms". Of course neither party is promising you prosperity anymore, just a maintenance of the status quo.
