My poll on whether things would be better or worse if free email services went back to capping inbox capacity at like 5MB has closed.

It was a pretty even split: from my view it looks like 7 said things would be better, 7 said things would be worse, and 5 weren't sure.

I'm in the camp that leans toward thinking things would be better if free email services went back to very limited volume.

I think the main outcomes would be that people do some combination of going back to storing their email locally and/or opting for paid email services, both of which I see as primarily good things.

I like plain text too. Keep things simple, and no need to worry about whether everyone is seeing the same thing.

I'm not sure, though whether markup significantly adds to bandwidth to really be affected. Do you have perspective on this?

@dynamic I mostly just get annoyed when I'm using mutt, but looking through some new emails, it typically doesn't add much size.
