I moved from Seattle, US to Ōtautahi, Aotearoa (Christchurch, NZ) 29 years ago. The fact it was quite far from the Microsoft Corporation in Redmond was a major bonus. But their tarnishing tentacles are widespread. Last week my bandmate of 7+ yrs told us he couldn't make this week's practice (we've got a gig in a few weeks) because he'd be away... 'Where to?' we asked. 'Seattle. I'm visiting Microsoft HQ as I'm working for them now, on XBox.' Ugh. He doesn't even know why I don't respect 'em.

@lwriemen yup. One of my old friends (from the band I was in while living there) was a 26 year veteran of Microsoft - was made redundant a few months ago... confidence soars.
