*sigh*. Speaking as a 50+ guy who fronts a band... I'm conflicted. There's no age limit for music... but there's something undeniably awkward about seeing my musical heroes of old, now in their 50s-70s, performing with echoes of the histrionics & (attempted) bravado of their brash, vibrant, edgy younger selves. I wish they didn't need to do so. Most of the corners have been knocked off (& falsettos curtailed) in any case, although surely many of us are still internal rebels at full register.

@lightweight

I think there's a time when the really good musicians know to create new arrangements of their music, to accommodate their own aging & physical limitations, and to keep the music fresh.

TBH, the ones who don't do themselves, their fans (including new ones) and their music a disservice.

@canusfeminacanis I just wish that there were more musicians at my age or older defining a new vernacular of vital music that touches on themes more relevant to folks at this stage of life... too many are just reliving music they made a lifetime ago, with themes from
that age/time...

@lightweight @canusfeminacanis Heh. Having seen DOA, Flipper, MDC, Circle Jerks, Negative Approach, and 7 Seconds shows in recent years, I'd feel pretty abashed if I couldn't show some energy on stage in my 60s (70s in the case of the Flipper guitarist). Of the ones I saw in the 1980s, I can't really say they're laclking these days. Hope to see the UK Subhumans this month.
