It's like someone at Microsoft said "We have these incredibly potent tools for making people lose their will to live - we cannot abide the possibility they could find refuge from them in the Metaverse!"
A Microsoft-riddled Metaverse. Can't really imagine anything less inspiring. Blech.
@lightweight Using the term, "Metaverse" really reeks of falling for the Facebook/Meta marketing scheme. Can't we just say, "Meta platform"? (Or at least something else that sounds uncool.)
@lightweight I guess "metaverse" first showed up in Snow Crash, so we should let Neal Stephenson protest.
@lwriemen true - good point (that was the first NS book I read - have read all the others except Anathem). Anything FB or MSFT do are, by virtue of them doing it, uncool. But yeah, we can leave Stephenson to take issue. Could be good inspiration for cutting satire.
@lwriemen I dunno, I already chuckle now when I hear Metaverse. Sorta like when I hear (very rarely) people say words like "Bing!" and "Zune".
