Superior technologies, like Shlaer-Mellor object modeling, are already in danger of extinction, because they failed to grab sufficient market share. Software development, lacking sufficient usage of metrics, is a popularity contest, subject to the whims of capitalism. This causes the creation of undeserving meritocrats to lead us further astray.
