@rysiek@mastodon.technology The US civil war was more supported by geography than ideology. The idea, of convincing ignorant citizens of a state that they are fighting for their state, is more powerful than the idea of collecting separated like minded individuals into an army. Just look at how tiny the number of participants in the January 6th insurrection we're compared to the US population. It's pretty laughable to extend that to civil war numbers.

@rysiek@mastodon.technology Even taking that to percentage of Trump supporters in the last election and then applying that to percent of US population that voted, you get a really tiny number. Most polls show the voting population doesn't reflect the views of the whole population.
