Holy crap - I knew there were good reasons to mistrust 'snap' packages. Over the past few days, 'snapd' has been going berserk a couple times a day, bringing my grunty desktop to its knees for completely unknown reasons. I only have 3 snap apps installed on my machine. Anyone else seeing this? I can't seem to find others with similar issues.

@lightweight The Wikipedia article on snap has some pretty damning stuff in the Adoption and Reception headings. Sounds like Canonical is leveraging it as a lock-in mechanism by a closed source store and tying their Chromium development to it. (Lock-in and tying are my interpretations, not part of the article.)
