I'm not convinced Mastodon is any less of a dumpster fire than Twitter or Facebook, but it does have better escapes (filtering, restricting, blocking,...).

It still has a way to go to catch up to Usenet, but most users probably don't even know that. (FWIW, most Usenet users also didn't know how to use the escapes.)
