Question from the audience: Will a full Linux kernel in Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (as per the recent WSL announcement) mean the decline \ slowdown of the Linux desktop?

@lunduke it will make people curious about linux and more will start trying it and switching over.
@jeff you're being incredibly naïve. Make an easy to install and workplace distro to immediately sell, drivers all included.
@lunduke
@1iceloops123 something like this that'll be popping soon when @lunduke makes fun of himself again.
@jeff
@jeff @lunduke that's best case scenario, let's hope for it

@lunduke embrace, extend, extinguish? When should we fork? Not excited. Truly don’t understand why some in the Linux community trust MSFT at all.

@lunduke
No, because desktop Linux is so much more than just a kernel and shell.

@lunduke
Not sure about that, maybe in the future.
Short term this is all about Azure and Microsoft cloud business.

@lunduke Hard for me to say... I was on the Linux desktop exclusively since 2001, so I am going to continue as before. The general public was moving to tablets anyway, making the question somewhat moot. Both desktop Windows and desktop Linux are likely to continue receding in front of the might of Google, which is actually a big challenge for FLOSS. In that context Microsoft reinventing Eunice is not a big deal.
