I have learnt my lesson - don't prepare a woollen warp for the loom and let it sit where cat fur can mingle with it, knot and felt.
I predict I'll have to learn how to do replacement warp threads - that was not a smooth or well-tensioned wind-on.
@Kymberly During my first attempt at overshot weaving, I learned just how much more it wants to draw in compared to other techniques, which combined with my poorer technique, meant abrasion on the edge of the warp.
Before then I was intimidated about breaking warp threads. That project I got to practice replacing warp threads at least a dozen times. So all that to say, if you get to that place and need help, ask away!
@kyle After replacing a warp thread and pinning it in place, do you leave the pin in as you wind the woven fabric on?
Four broke before the scarf was started (after the sample). I suspect there’ll be more around halfway as the threads dislike tension and grip nearby threads as if they have claws! 😅
@Kymberly Sorry to hear you have already had so many warp threads break! But this just means by the end of the project you'll be an expert at replacing them!
I leave the pin in until the fabric reaches the breast beam. At that point there should be enough woven cloth in front of it that you shouldn't have to worry about the warp thread pulling through.
