every few days I come up with another reason to spinup my own private/invite-only instance.
Today: I have a lot of great gifs ive made over the years that are ~15 megs, because that was twitters limit - but mastodon.social's limit is 10 meg.
@Viss I keep thinking about spinning my own instance up too… but ugh, the admin overhead isn’t something I feel like monkeying with right now. It is really tempting tho.
@Wildbill @Viss I suspect, like with email, there are different levels to this. The administrative overhead of an instance for just yourself (or a few friends/family) would probably not be too bad.
The overhead (in particular moderation) for an instance used by the larger public would be more significant.
@kyle @Viss Yeah, I agree, Kyle. I’m trying to lose responsibilities these days, not gain them. Even if it’s “not too bad”… I declared bankruptcy on my own email a while ago.
