I'm so happy I splurged for Penguin's high quality cloth hardcover of War and Peace (Briggs translation). It not only feels great in your hands, it has a silk ribbon bookmark!

Update: I'm 400 pages in and it's quite the page turner! I never heard people say that about War and Peace, so either most read it when they are too young to appreciate it, or all the Gibbon and Durant has changed my threshold for "page turner"

I finished War and Peace! What a surprise ending!

I did not expect it to end with a philosophical essay on the contrasting forces of necessity and free will and the impact of that conflict on the science of history as compared to harder sciences. This book has it all!

@kyle That's wicked. I can't remember the last classic I read that was a page-turner. Probably *The Hitchhiker's Guide*, but that's not exactly a "classic". Still freaking amazing though.
