The Smithsonian announced today that they have released 2.8 million images into the public domain (CC0 license). In celebration of this I made a bot you can follow that will post one random image from the set every 8 hours:

The dual boot option for the Cosmo was officially launched yesterday. The Debian distro seems to work, at least up to the point where I try to install anything. Or goes into suspend mode. I'll be able to see what this is capable of Real Soon Now. cc @mhoye

It's official - @mozilla@twitter.com is fully live on Matrix! http://exple.tive.org/blarg/2020/02/20/synchronous-messaging-were-live/ Helping get Mozilla going has been a lot of fun, and we'll see a lot of improvements to Riot's UX in the coming months based on their feedback (turns out they know quite a lot about FOSS usability :D)
Getting tired of every "guix package -u" rebuilding icecat. Is there a way to tell it to use the prepackaged one and just grab whatever deps that needs?
This seems like a pretty big waste of CPU cycles & power.

The LG dishwasher is starting to leak. Ordered a new gasket (seems the seal going is the most common problem).
$36 plus shipping plus tax brings it to over $50 for a $2-$5 part.
At least it's possible for this model. The old oven died after 5 years and no parts were available at all.
Repairability is so much of an afterthought on home appliances.

Trying to move instances has made me realize how communication is controlled by fediverse instance admins, not users, to the users's detriment.
This is frustrating as picking an instance that some admins start to disagree with means that communication is cut off between users without them having a say.
Currently octodon.social and mastodon.technology block my main instance.
Email had its problems, but it is rare for admins there to decide who you can & can't email wholesale.
We conducted a new technical analysis on the Ring doorbell app for Android. Ring is handing over customer data including names, private IP addresses, mobile network carriers, and persistent identifiers to third-party trackers.
