@gael would be easier for users to replace if there was an "add search engine" link for browsers, similar to what ddg does. Otherwise users need to add something like https://spot.ecloud.global/search?q=%s manually, which most will not do

Check out my brandnew webcomic, "Contra Chrome":
Subtitle: How #Google‘s browser became a threat to #privacy and #democracy.
Featuring Shoshana Zuboff, vegan Piranhas, and everything you ever wanted to know about #Chrome but were afraid to ask!
Read and download for free – hope you like it! 😊
And if you do, please spread the word!
@winduptoy @cblgh what (if anything) did ypou out on the bottom to be able to move it around?
Google has released a patch which guards against a high severity vulnerability. The company is aware that an exploit exists in the wild.
Users of chrome-based browsers are advised to update as soon as possible and restart their browsers.
Sounds like things are still on track for the #Mycroft Mark2. The date hasn't slipped (so far), and Mimic3 sounds really interesting. This update includes a demo of Mycroft integrating with #HomeAssistant in a completely offline but still voice driven system. Honestly, this is the goal for me. A voice driven environment where not one component of it requires an actual Internet connection, just local network. No one needs to know my front door is unlocked but me.

@mhoye sounds like a tweak on https://torontobrewing.ca/products/beer-subscription-box ... Might want to talk to Zack there and see if there's enough of a market to get it just the way you want it
@Jaqueek @matrix that context would be helpful:
"New website! beeperhq.com. Beeper is a Matrix server+client combo preconfigured with 12+ bridges. Our mission is to bring a lot of new users into the Matrix ecosystem and give them a fast and powerful client to message people on all networks. Beeper is a paid subscription service, but since all the bridges are open source, you can set the whole system up yourself for free if you choose"

An extra example of the pattern of "ban women as soon as they look like they might seize the spotlight from men": baseball pitcher Jackie Mitchell, who at age seventeen struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in succession. She was quickly rewarded for this feat by being banned from baseball on the grounds that the game was "too strenuous" for women.

A comprehensive break-down of the #GoogleMaps empire, and the competitors vying for their own fiefdoms
@mhoye it more depends on your file manager, launcher, installed PDF reader, etc. Those aren't really "OS" or "Android" per se. They vary.
On mine, I can download the Ontario vaccination record as a PDF using Firefox, use the file manager to find it in Downloads, create a launcher/home screen shortcut, and use that to open it in the PDF reader with one touch without any further internet access. Just as I could on many other OSes.
"Google disables tens of millions of Google accounts every year, as stated in a Dutch Tweakers article by Google Communications Manager in the Netherlands, without warning, giving the recipient a reason why, or providing a way to get it back."
Hey, so this is super cool.
Google has been collecting call and messaging data about who you talk to or send text messages to for years. There's no opt-out, no notifcation in their TOS they're doing this, and you can't see the results of that collection in Google Takeout.

@jgoerzen @Hawk1291 I was hopeful that FirefoxOS would have evolved into something suitable for a Chromebook replacement and be a viable alternative for education. Unfortunately the project targeted low end phones and died. There's more than the laptop & its OS, though. School boards buy into the entire service ecosystem. Even users with personal laptops are being trained/conditioned to use Google products exclusively. Ease of administration will have long term effects
Sigh. Upgrade yer kernels.
