It’s pretty wild how Signal was a big deal and then they did a cryptocoin and all that just ended. Maybe I’m not representative, but … everyone I stayed in touch with via Signal all found some other thing at the same time. Nobody said anything; we all just quietly decided that was the end of that.
@mhoye good options. I tried to get a migration to matrix going about 6 months ago but that failed due to bad UX (slow and confusing to family members). Will see if the state has improved enough to take another run at it.
Motivation to get off of SMS was mainly around groups of 10 or more being very unreliable.
Got some traction onto Snikket, so XMPP may be where we end up locally for at least a while
