One of the best decisions I've made as a teacher in years is to replace one of my assignments with a "Tools We Love" lightning talk.
The grading scheme this term was: In three minutes,
1 pt: Show me a tool you love.
2 pts: Convince me you really love it.
3 pts: Convince me I should love it too.
The results have been absolutely amazing, and I am going to do this for every course I run from now on.

@jgoerzen Sadly, I can't share the presentations, as much as I want to. "I want to share these presentations with the world" and "I am grading these presentations" is not a recipe for uncoerced consent, so I can't do that.
