positive thing about doing your own kitchen remodel: saving tons on labor so it's easy to justify getting nice cabinet drawer slides, hinges, and pulls.
negative thing: ahhhh so many measurements and numbers. if I make the door this wide will it hit the wall when you open it? ahhhh

@dthompson you are braver than I am - I think replacing pulls and hinges is the only thing I’m capable of

@bignimbus building these things is less difficult than you may think. the challenge is the quantity and layout.

@dthompson @bignimbus ooh, don't forget the extra challenges around no surface actually being level or straight. The professionals make it look easy to make all the corners and kick plates and everything look straight when they're anything but. It's all doable DIY, just involves a lot of time, cursing, and replanning on the fly.

And then having your own eye drawn to every mistake after the fact ;)

@keverets @bignimbus yeah that can be an issue. my house is old and nothing is square but so far there's nothing I haven't been able to work around. it's a lot easier when you're painting things and can hide any small gap with a little caulking.
