I don't understand why people are so fanatical about streaming every little piece of media they consume. Storage is dirt cheap. Audio files are small. Videos can be deleted after watching.

It's 2020. There's no reason to rely on heavy, JS-laden web pages or shitty mobile apps and ads every 2 seconds on both.

@amolith My lossy collection is over 55 GB, a phone only barely carries 16 or 32 GB sometimes. Streaming services are de facto because everyone making phones doesn't include a normal amount of space, nor do they charge a reasonable amount for increasing the storage, and nor do they include an sd slot for people who need more. They gimp the user in every single possible way in terms of storage. I can get a 500GB sd card for 50 bucks, or a 500GB SSD for around the same price. Where the holy fuck do they get off charging a 50 dollar difference for an increase of 64 GB? This is a scam to increase the cloud's usage and popularity, thus making us more susceptible to spying. Give me a phone with 256GB capacity and an SD slot PLEASE

my music library is 49.6 GB and ~90% lossless :sobbing:

for phones, it's pretty easy to just pick which artists you want to listen to and copy the files over. I do agree though; there is absolutely no reason for cheaper phones to have so little storage out of the box and not allow for expanding it

@amolith @coyote I think there is also an element of mobile carriers wanting to sell larger data cap plans in this equation, too.

I'm a data miser, and refuse to pay for more then the minimum I can find. I therefore also refuse to stream anything unless I am on WiFi. If I can't fit the music/video I might want on my phone, I just do without.
