The university protests are a great example of how constitutional rights don't truly exist. In theory you have the right to free speech and a right to peaceful protest, but only on public property. On private property, the property owner has the right to arbitrarily trespass you at any time and have you arrested, which makes it extremely easy to silence even peaceful protestors. Most large institutions will always align with the government, since it's the government that upholds the system they benefit from. Sure, you can still hold your protests on public property, but since pretty much the only public property available is roads, where you're violating the law by impeding traffic, there is basically nowhere you can actually exercise any of your rights.

@malwaretech@infosec.exchange When protests happen at school or uni, it can make other students feel unsafe. When they barricade campus buildings, it stops a private business from functioning. Those other kids that were impacted by these protests are having to learn in a remote/online environment, which they never thought would happen again after COVID.

There are other public places like parks and sidewalks.. which do not involve the streets. Freedom of speech/protest does not provide freedom from consequences.

@mrhamel "You can protest as long as you do it out of the way and don't disrupt anything so we can continue to ignore you"

God bless America lol

@malwaretech@infosec.exchange So it's alright if I go to your house and protest at your front door, and take up space on your front lawn, correct? You won't call the police and trespass me, correct?

If that bothers you, imagine what others may feel. If your first action is to call the police, then you've proven my point.

@mrhamel Depends. Are you protesting mass murder or protesting people causing minor inconvenience to your extremely priveledged life?

@malwaretech @mrhamel
Why does that matter. Is it only ok for him to protest at your house if you agree with what he is protesting about?

@jlcrawf @malwaretech @mrhamel LOL at a peaceful protest I went to in 2020 in a city park, a bunch of people got tear gassed and shot with rubber bullets because they didn't disperse fast enough--because the police had barricaded all the exits. This country doesn't like any kind of protest and will use any excuse to stop them. Or hey, the US could stop funding genocide and the protests would end.

@jlcrawf@social.librem.one @malwaretech@infosec.exchange Exactly! Why does the subject of the protest matter, when a bullhorn can disturb the peace with any rhetoric at obscene volume. There is it a point where it becomes a nuisance.

If he calls the police to protect him and his property by having me removed, what do you think the unis are doing?

Is the owner of the house creating laws that will disrupt the life of millions? Is the owner of the house an elected **representative** who failed to **represent**?
