We were taught never to click unsubscribe links on emails we had never signed up for in the first place, as it merely confirms there is a real person at your email address.
For such messages arriving I report spam (or phishing if their message seems to seek additional details about me).
However if it is something you signed up for previously then we assume the unsub is genuine and needs to work.
@prlzx it's a legit company and I made an account (but never knowingly signed up for their newsletter).

I have a spam mail account for this very reason.
If I need to sign up or create an account online for any reason, I use the spam mail account.
