Their phones weren't actually a scam, I am typing this from one. And thet seem to have learned a lesson from the phones because in the case of the tablet, there was never a pre-order option, they are available now.

@jlcrawf @omglinux Tell that to the 600+ people who requested refunds and have yet to receive it or a phone.

@JayLittle @omglinux
I don't know where you got your 600 number from, however according to their website, if you have ordered a phone and have an order number, then the phone is ready to ship. You probably will not be able to get the refund, but you can definitely get the phone.
Poor customer service, absolutely. Scam, no.

@jlcrawf @omglinux I got it from Purism's own Customer Service person who tried to get Louis Rossman to take his video down which covered this issue.

They also say 10% of Librem 5 customers asked for a refund and given that, I believe the 600 number they also mention is a low ball number. The real number is probably at least 1000.

I was guessing that they only sold about 5000 phones, if the 600 is correct and is 10%, then they actually sold closer to 6000. Regardless, if you ordered a phone, then you can get the phone. That is not a scam. Yes, it took right at 4 years for me to receive mine. Yes, they, several times misrepresented how close they were to being ready. There are a lot of legitimate things that can be said about the Librem5, scam just isn't one of them.

@jlcrawf @omglinux Refusing to refund 600+ backers who asked for refunds qualifies as a scam. If you believe otherwise, you should reevaluate your definition of the word "scam" because it is clearly incorrect.

Purism themselves admitted this to Louis Rossman. Went so far as to justify it by saying that refunding the 10% would've forced the company out of business and deny the remaining 90% their phone.

In any event, I can't imagine considering doing business with Purism ever again.

@JayLittle @omglinux
I will most definitely do business with purism again. My is the best phone that I have ever owned. Sure, I was frustrated by the long wait, but I also understand that when I pre-order a device that hasn't been built yet, I am taking a risk. It took longer than what I liked, but the risk was worth it.
And again, if you can receive the device that you pre-ordered, it is not a scam.
