Trade wars are harmful across the board, and the cost of these tariffs will be paid in higher prices, lost jobs, and a slower-growing economy. If the trade wars of the 1930s are repeated, Americans could pay by suffering through another Great Depression.

Not sure that I agree. As a long term strategy, yes it is bad, but that doesn't mean that you take it out of your toolbox if things to use. Stealing and intellectual property theft are also bad and protecting citizens from that is one of the true functions of government.
Using tariffs as a strategy to stop unfair trade practices can be seen as our government protecting is from another government.
