I wanted to listen to an album no longer available on any streaming service. Luckily I knew I had that specific CD somewhere in the storage so that I could rip it. But why does it have to be that difficult?
Why can I not go to a digital library, buy a copy, and happily listen to the music I want? Why is the availability of music controlled by someone?
@nikovirtala This would be sensible copyright policy: once no longer commercially viable (evidenced by active commercial licensing) it becomes public domain.
@jeremiahlee whatever would guarantee that the content is available for distribution forever — it doesn’t even need to mean that it is available for free, just that it is available.
