What if Signal makes it easier to buy legally prohibited stuff through Signal than Bitcoin and people stop wasting enormous amounts of energy mining Bitcoing. ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ˜†

@be This would be exciting if it meant less mining waste, but is proof-of-work a part of the mobilecoin architecture? Will Signal be just creating more wasteful emissions?

@be At a glance it looks like Mobilecoin does not support mining, but rather runs a consensus network with allowlisted servers only.. so it's very possible that if it displaced bitcoin for some common usages, Mobilecoin could reduce the cryptocurrency emissions problem. :thinking_fire:

@seachaint @be@hackers.town It won't because most common use for bitcoin is mining for hodling.

@jautero @seachaint Yeah my post was more meant as poking fun at both of them. I don't actually expect that people will stop mining Bitcoin because of this. People mine Bitcoin because they want to get rich in the pyramid scheme, not because they want to support the use of Bitcoin as a currency.
