@jautero @Canageek Jupyter notebooks being an alternate of writing 'normal' code (typically python) that's more interactive and possibly excel like. I'd suggest trying it out for something small to see if you like it https://jupyter.org/

I'm also replying here to second that Pandas as a library a lot of neat data handling tool (though it's often more than I need)
