if there was a social network that let you unlink replies from your posts, i would ditch the fediverse in a heartbeat. like not even delete the replies, just detach them from underneath your threads
people post the most ignorant bullshit in my replies, like the most flippant half-baked garbage responses to my sparkling pristine solid-platinum posts. it makes me fucking irate. my like only ‘bad habit’ on social media is telling brainless shitlosers in my mentions to fuck off
i’m not trying to silence anyone. i literally don’t even care if people @ me. it just makes me fucking furious that no matter how perfect and graceful my precious heartfelt posts are, horrible goblins can just fling poop and it will stay stuck underneath them permanently and forever
if i was the type to abuse my power as admin i’d just block the trolls at the instance level bc i think that’s the only way hide replies like that #onhere
@red The problem is that @ replies are just an added hack to basic model of following people you want to read. This model is not designed for conversations.
@jautero but even with this system we have the concept of a ‘reply’ which @‘s the person (usually) and adds the post in-line under the recipient’s post, versus the plain ‘mention’ which @‘s the person but stands alone as it’s own independent post. we just don’t have a way for the recipient to decline the first option in favor of the second
