When posting on my own platform (#Socialhome) and occasionally comparing how posts look on other platforms, from a purely delivery of information point of view, it always makes me wonder why on earth did #microblogging become popular?

Character limits and lack of formatting are such unnecessary limitations to the creativity of people. Sure, #Twitter did ok with this (for some reason), but why do other platforms need to copy it?

Currently my posts are best viewed on non-microblogging #ActivityPub platforms, #Matrix (with Element at least looks nice) and #Diaspora. On #Mastodon the posts look like a block of bricks on the head as it strips formatting but still keeps the whole post.
