I've heard of people having occasional issues in some communities.
None of that here on #TootCommunity
Thanks to everyone who is supportive and friendly, but the biggest thanks to our "chap at the helm," @jorjin
If you're just getting started on here, you may be wondering why this place has so many servers and apps. Why make it so complicated?
Click here to find out why:
Twitter is all on one server (twitter.com). This made it VERY easy for Musk to buy it. Any centralised network can be bought out just like this.
The Fediverse is different: as long as we stay spread out on many servers, no one will ever be able to buy this network, not even the richest person in the world.
Congratulations to the Toronto Argonauts on winning their 18th Grey Cup!
The Argos have won 18 of 23 Grey Cups they have appeared in for a .782 winning percentage.
The Blue Bombers are now 12-15 in 27 Grey Cups, for a .444 winning percentage.
@elsthomson @Anilu7 welcome if you need any other help just let me know.
Oh hey, I have a bunch of new followers who don't know about this.
I run a radio station https://mountaintown.fm
Usually, it plays a mix of obscure rock songs, local music, dolly parton, and some mainstream "indie" rock.
But on Sundays ...
Sundays are Jazz days. At least for the next several hours.
Some come join in and listen to Jazz and Boogie Woogie from the 20s on up.
Clearly the people who care the most about us, the people who appreciate #OpenSource are at Mastodon!
This story reminds me of the Canadian RCMP offhand disclosure about its use of Pegasus spyware for many years... Security researcher slams federal government for refusing to identify RCMP’s spyware provider:

The thing about Twitter is that it really lacks a lot of the features you'd expect from a true Mastodon replacement.
For example, there's no way to edit your toots (which they, confusingly call "tweets"—let's face it, it's a bit of a silly name that's difficult to take seriously).
"Tweets" can't be covered by a content warning. There's no way to let the poster know you like their tweet without also sharing it, and no bookmark feature.
There's no way to set up your own instance, and you're basically stuck on a single instance of Twitter. That means there's no community moderators you can reach out to to quickly resolve issues. Also, you can't de-federate instances with a lot of problematic content.
It also doesn't Integrate with other fediverse platforms, and I couldn't find the option to turn the ads off.
Really, Twitter has made a good start, but it will need to add a lot of additional features before it gets to the point where it becomes a true Mastodon replacement for most users.
100 Mastodon myths:
1. Mastodon is hard.
FALSE. It’s a "soft"ware. Not hardware.
2. You have to use Linux to post on Mastodon.
FALSE. FreeBSD and OpenBSD are also supported.
3. You need to learn to use the Vim editor before posting on Mastodon.
FALSE. There’s also an emacs plugin.
4. Mastodon is only for computer nerds.
FALSE. As you can see, we sometimes try to make jokes that everyone could understand.
Psst. Hey. You want to make a Jen very happy? 🥰

::: SAILTRIX - a Matrix chat client for premium mobile Linux OS SailfishOS
A splendid find - works even on the classic Jolla One phone!
Sailtrix supports end-to-end encryption amongst other obvious necessities.
Currently in beta state, becoming more feature-rich all the time.
Works great already 🙏
Element and NeoChat are other more known clients for Matrix messaging.

Whisperfish, an open-source Signal client for SailfishOS, can now be coupled as a secondary device. Which means I can finally use both my mobile and my tablet. #signal #sailfishos
I was hoping to release the new https://pixelfed.org a few days ago
The problem was the new server directory, it's really complex!
I wanted to make this super simple for server admins to submit & update their listings which meant I had to build a submission queue that is integrated into the Pixelfed admin dashboard and also caches (avatar, header, post) images on S3 on our side.
Anyways, it's almost ready and I can't wait 😁
