While the switch to the Snapdragon 662 is unlikely to negatively impact LineageOS and Ubuntu Touch (I hope), it‘s likely a major bummer for the mainline Linux story, which was looking quite good with the 835. #fxtec#pro1x
@jameshjacksonjr To be fair, this was the flagship SoC of 2017 and announced in 2016. That's fine for a SoC aimed at smartphones, a rapidly advancing product category. My main issues with Qualcomm SoCs are that Qualcomm does not do a better job at mainlining them and that they are sold in large quantities only, effectively prohibiting small scale upstarts to compete with the big shot smartphone manufacturers on one performance level.
