@jameshjacksonjr

interesting, so they are doing something similar to Nokia/HMD

@cybette correct something Similiar as the BlackBerry CEO John Chen wants there to always be BlackBerry devices on the market for physical keyboard lovers to buy and this will be the way to do it.

@jameshjacksonjr

it's great that they are keeping the physical keyboard alive, but I'm disappointed that they are not focusing on entertainment. I guess I'm not their target user :)

@jameshjacksonjr

how about you? would you be considering a device like that?

@cybette yes I'll get one ive had BlackBerrys ever sence the real old days it's a good email device for business the focus was never on entertainment

@cybette the device you have also is nice keyboard do you prefer the landscape keyboards to the portrait keyboards

@jameshjacksonjr

hmm, hard to say. When I was at Nokia I had access to a lot of devices with landscape keyboards (the communicators 9500 and E90, Maemo/meego N900 and N950, to symbian devices like N97 mini and E7 etc.) and I enjoyed using all of them.

but then one of my favourites was E71, which had a portrait keyboard :) However it had tiny little keys and a small screen, and with my increasing presbyopia I don't think I will like it as much nowadays.

how about you?

@cybette I've had both tons of BlackBerry's and also the n900 and one of the communicators I was always faster typing on the BlackBerry's with portrait keyboards but am willing to try again with the keyboard coming before years end for the pinephone I have.

@cybette is it hard for you going from all touch to physical keyboard and back all the time?

@jameshjacksonjr

hmm not really, I am mostly used to the virtual keyboard (predictive text helps) and I switch between devices regularly so I've gotten used to it.

Piano keyboards are what throws me off 😂

I have a slightly harder time going back to Android after the all the smooth swipe gestures of #SailfishOS 😛

@cybette me too after using sailfish it's hard going back to Android I wish society wasnt so reliant on Android and iOS for things

@cybette and lol at piano key boards has your orchestra started back up yet with covid

@jameshjacksonjr

yeah we have, with separate practice sessions (so fewer players at each session) and lots of precautions.

we've already had a virtual performance -- as a recording since we can't perform in front of a live audience yet. our next performances are in december, not sure if they'll be live (they are planned to be live, for now)

@jameshjacksonjr

lots of uncertainties, as with everything nowadays.

how's your business doing? hope things are going reasonably well for you.

@cybette things are going good sales are surprisingly thru the roof so I'm glad things are working out for me thru this pandemic

@jameshjacksonjr

not too bad, it's a good thing that Red Hat already has strong support for remote work. the teams I've been in have always been geographically diverse, so we're used to seeing each other via video conferencing, and only meet a couple times per year in all-hands meetings.

overall business is stable, some products/departments may be affected differently, but generally we're doing well.

@cybette and it sucks u haven't been able to really travel as your used to due to all this

@jameshjacksonjr

yeah I'm getting restless. but at least I still have a job in a good company :) the part I miss most is able to see my family on some of the work trips.
