I bought my phone in the US but I reside in Finland so it's a bit complicated. I'm waiting for https://www.fxtec.com/pro1/ to arrive so I have a work phone if I have to reset and send the Pixel2 back...
@cybette
This looks interesting. What OS are you going with? Who manufacturers it?
Going with Android that it comes with for now. Some people are working on a #SailfishOS port so let's see how that goes.
They have optimized Android to make more use of the landscape orientation without the vkbd taking up half the screen, so I'd at least use that initially.
Manufactured by a small independent company based in the UK. They've previously worked on a Moto Z keyboard mod. I know one of the founders.
@cybette @tootbrute
Made in the UK?
ah, no, made in China (is that a surprise? :))
@cybette @tootbrute
Foxconn?
no clue..
@cybette @tootbrute
I hate Foxconn, so that would be a deal-killer. But even made in China is problematic for me.
I'm looking for alternatives in case the new CEO can't get HTC to make a decent phone again. I'm going on 3 years with my HTC 10, so I still have some breathing room...but accidents do happen.
I'll check on it, although I don't think it's Foxconn.
It's been a while since I've had a phone for more than 2 years 😅 I think the previous one was Jolla.
@cybette @tootbrute
My last one was 5 years, so I'm targeting something similar for this one. Just doing contingency planning.
Weren't you playing with a Sony a while back?
I still have it - Sony #XperiaX running #SailfishOS. Good secondary/backup phone (esp with my Pixel2's battery issues) but doesn't support all the apps I need.
@cybette
What about build quality & longevity (I may or may not go with SailfishOS for my next phone)?
For the hardware, it's difficult for me to say since I'm not using it as my main device. At least the battery life is good: https://mastodon.org.uk/@cybette/102401370128447505
For #SailfishOS support, @leszek has a great video here with some thoughts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3aFCY33tSw
Based on what I've heard from people I know using Sony devices (running either Android or Sailfish), the general concensus is positive for build quality and longevity.
@jameshjacksonjr @SlowRain @leszek
indeed looking forward to the official support for Xperia 10.
