I jumped on the Smartphone train in 2008 with a BlackBerry Bold 9000, because IM+ messenger with native XMPP support was available for it. This has been the last time I was using a desktop messenger like Pidgin. ๐Ÿ˜Š When did you buy your first smartphone and what model was it?

@tpheine

My first smartphone was a Jolla 1 device and I was one of the first backers - 2013. Before that had never used a smartphone and still up to this day a lot of ui and things ppl say or use don't make much sense to me since I was really away from mainstream mobile OSes for a long time. I should be 2 years now that I use a Xperia android phone. Before all this a reliable Nokia dumbphone. Jolla had an integrated conversation view that integrated multiple sources, was really nice.

@vascorsd
Wow, that's awesome! I had the Nokia N900 with Maemo, so to say the grandparent of the Jolla system ๐Ÿ˜Š what a great story ๐Ÿ‘

@tpheine I really really wanted to buy a N900 phone or the N9 I think but then the whole shit with nokia abandoning it and it not being sold anywhere near me in my country made me really sad. Jolla was the best thing I couls find. Still works and receives updates, just that the battery went to shit so it's now my alarm and hotspot sometimes.

@vascorsd
You're right, the whole Nokia Maemo Meego whatever was a disaster! Great hardware anyway. I am impressed that the Jolla still receives updates ๐Ÿ‘

@vascorsd @tpheine yes you should get one some reasons I like it is it has a user replaceable battery why buy a new phone every 2 years cause of a sealed battery so I see this phone as an investment for the long term.
