Signal application is free to use. They encourage to give donations in order to run.

I have never seen a donation suggestion to WhatsApp or Messenger when I use those applications. Somehow they have money by other means to run.

I remember paying a USD to keep WhatsApp operational. That was before Facebook/Meta got involved, though.
