Few things infuriate me as much as someone posting screenshots or pictures of text pages and then just writing "screenshot of a text" or "a text page in a book" in the ALT text.

Visually impaired people have the same right to information as sighted people! It's not accessible to exclude them from the written content. And no, a brief summary like "a funny text about dogs" isn't accessible either. At least give some more details if you don't want to type out the whole text.

Stop excluding us!

@glittercleric I understand your point. I do. I hope I can do better. But it is difficult, always, and even more so if I write in English I lack words even more to describe something. Of course, Google translate is a possibility, but I do prefer to avoid that tool. If it's a text, it is rather the time it takes to write it down. I share images relatively seldom here, and one reason is that it is so much effort with the alt-text, so better only use words.

@hehemrin honestly, if there's no ALT text at all, I at least know what I'm getting into. I'm specifically talking about people who add ALT text, but it's only the above, or a row of emojis, or, the worst, something like "a book".

For general images, it's imo totally fine to say, in a pinch, "a picture of a sunset". But not describing text that's shown and important to understand the post, that's what I'm addressing here. It automatically excludes people reliant on a screen reader for example.

@glittercleric Oki, thanks for further explanation. And in any case, thanks for the reminder, I listen and will try to improve myself.
