My current plan is to delete nearly all my posts and likes pretty quickly, so don’t take it personally. (I think there’s a setting here that can do that automatically, which is another reason to like Mastodon.)

@grammargirl I'm also curious why? You are of course free to do it, and without explaining why. But still I wonder if it is a reason I can learn something from.

@hehemrin I'm feeling less interested in having a permanent record of everything I think be easily available online.

It also doesn't feel like having every bit of it online serves much purpose for me or my followers. I tried to go through my Twitter archive recently, and it was overwhelming and mostly useless.

Finally, I'm further interested because people said it reduces the cost for your instance since they don't have to store all your obsolete data.

@grammargirl Thanks Mignon. I have to think about it myself. And it should be possible to download an archive if desirable first. And some is stored in the Wayback machine. :-) One drawback I can think of is when posts and threads are linked to on websites, I do that occasionally. But it's rare. Thanks for sharing your reasons.
